Substance Highlights

Local Anesthetics

Local anesthetics, commonly including lidocaine, procaine, and tetracaine, can increase the severity of responses to illicit drugs. At toxic levels, they may also produce their own adverse effects, including seizures.

Fentanyl Precursor Chemicals

Fentanyl precursor chemicals, such as ortho-methyl 4-AP-1-ethyl Carbamate and Tetramethyl-4-AP, are used in the chemical synthesis of fentanyl or fentanyl analogues. While they are generally not active opioids themselves, their presence may indicate incomplete or poor manufacturing processes.

Levamisole

Levamisole is a veterinary antiparasitic medication frequently used as an adulterant in street drugs, particularly cocaine, heroin, and fentanyl. In humans, exposure may reduce white blood cell counts and cause necrotic skin wounds.
