Common adverse effects are sedation, bradycardia, hypotension, and severe withdrawal symptoms. Tetracaine Local anesthetics (commonly Lidocaine, Procaine, and Tetracaine) can increase the severity of other responses to illicit drugs, and at high levels (toxicity) can trigger their own symptoms, like seizures. Tetracaine has a longer duration effect than other local anesthetics and is commonly seen with medetomidine in street drug samples. • The most common substances detected last month were fentanyl, medetomidine, and tetracaine.
• Tetracaine was the most common local anesthetic detected. This was the first time since February 2025 where it was detected in more than 50% of samples.
• Compared to last month, there were more isolated cocaine and methamphetamine samples in October. This may explain the decline in fentanyl detection in the same sample size.
